The four parts, in plain English

Medicare is federal health coverage for people 65+ (and some younger people with certain conditions). It comes in four parts, and understanding them is most of the battle.

  • Part A — Hospital. Inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing, some home health. Most people pay no premium for it.
  • Part B — Medical. Doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services. Has a monthly premium.
  • Part C — Medicare Advantage. An all-in-one plan from a private carrier that bundles A and B, usually with Part D, sometimes extras.
  • Part D — Prescription drugs. A separate drug plan (or built into an Advantage plan).

You don't need to memorize the alphabet. That's my job. You just need to know what fits your doctors, your medications, and your budget.

Your Two Main Paths

Two ways to put it together

Most people choose one of these. Neither is "best," the right one depends on you.

Path 1

Original Medicare + Medigap + Part D

Keep Original Medicare (A & B), add a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) to help with out-of-pocket costs, and a stand-alone Part D drug plan. Widest doctor access; a predictable, higher monthly cost.

Path 2

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Get your coverage through one private plan that bundles A, B, and usually D, often with extra benefits. Typically lower monthly cost with network and referral rules. Availability is county-specific.

When You Can Enroll

The windows that matter

Timing is one of the few places a mistake can cost you. Here are the big ones.

Turning 65

Initial Enrollment

A 7-month window around your 65th birthday month. The best time to get it right the first time.

Every Fall

Oct 15 – Dec 7

The Annual Enrollment Period. Anyone on Medicare can review and change plans for the coming year.

Life Changes

Special Periods

Moving, losing other coverage, or other qualifying events can open a Special Enrollment Period just for you.

Not sure which window you're in? That's the first thing Jorge will help you figure out, free.

Common Questions

Medicare, answered

No. There's no cost to you to work with a licensed independent agent. Agents are paid by the carrier, and your premium is the same whether you use an agent or enroll on your own.
Neither is universally "better." A Supplement (with Original Medicare and a Part D plan) offers the widest doctor access at a higher, predictable cost. Medicare Advantage bundles coverage at typically lower cost with network rules. Jorge helps you weigh your doctors, drugs, and budget.
Often, yes. Plans change every year, your doctors and prescriptions change, and a plan that fit last year may not this year. A quick review during the Annual Enrollment Period is free and can save real money, or confirm you're already in the right place.
Yes. Jorge helps families in both English and Spanish. Se habla español, con gusto.
Jorge is based in Flushing and focuses on Queens and the greater New York area, and is licensed across NY, NJ, and GA. Medicare Advantage and drug-plan availability is county-specific, so he'll confirm what's offered where you live.
